Every year, the internet is becoming increasingly integrated into our daily lives. It’s used to do everything from banking to reading the news to having our food delivered right to our homes within just a few minutes. The pandemic is putting greater proportions of our daily lives online, the need for internet development talent is as great as ever before, and the range of what programmers can do is vast.

Suppose you’re studying the world of web app development, and you’ve figured out what web developers do in their job daily. In that case, this is a great way to understand the latest web development trends better.

As the year comes close, I’m left to think about what the next year might bring for us. Is the internet woven into more areas of our lives by introducing more complicated buzzwords we are required to pretend to be able to comprehend?

Here’s my top list of the most popular web development trends that I believe will transform the technological landscape in the coming years:

The most significant web development trend is currently in the spotlight.

1.  Artificial intelligence

When you discuss technological advancements in the near future, Artificial intelligence (AI) has always been on the list. At the moment, however, I think that it’s a good idea. A number of advancements have been made in the area of AI over the past year.

The biggest tech firms, like Google, Microsoft, and Meta (formerly Facebook), have recently released their AI technology for use by the general public. Artificial intelligence is being utilized by a variety of large-scale applications that are used to enhance the performance of search engines, such as in the case of Google or Wikipedia, to detect damaged or inaccurate article content. Regardless of your opinion, it is the basis of all Meta’s strategies to create its metaverse.

2.  No-code and low-code tools

Sincere, I was initially unsure whether to include this in part of the current trends. Likely, the popularity of tools that do not require code will make it harder for users to take up programming.

But not really.

The continued development of these tools may be, in part, an effort to address the gaps in the coding skills that make the web an extremely lucrative profession in terms of salary, but the computer will not replace your job. In reality, we’d require training the developers to use the tools in LC: NC regardless.

3.  Internet of Things (IoT)

Long heralded as the future, the internet of things is a movement where typically non-internet-connected objects are given network connectivity to send and receive data.

These items can range from your kettle or toaster and sensors on motors or embedded into concrete to identify cracks and weak points. Anyone with an Amazon Alexa, Phillips Hue light and Google Nest know what I’m talking about.

Web developers aren’t necessarily involved in developing such devices, but UI creators work via voice-based user interfaces. It’s possible that we’ll participate in creating software that analyses and displays information from the devices. Companies like Xively or BugLabs have already started work on APIs that developers could develop to interact via IoT devices.

While IoT provides a great deal of potential for invention, there have been some concerns brought up, especially concerning security. Web app developers are bound to face interesting challenges, including helping to secure furniture and fittings from hackers.

4.  AI Chatbots

Although they may have existed in various forms, we can expect this area of work to grow into an extremely lucrative growth field by 2022.

The reason is that the precision and functionality of these chatbots have dramatically grown and advanced, giving companies far greater opportunities to utilize chatbots.

5.  15 degrees and beyond

In 2016, a new version of Angular was released, and many changes came with it. Google’s interface JavaScript framework has been completely revamped.

It can now take advantage of the features offered by JavaScript ES6 Applications have been written with TypeScript and have changed to a more components-driven design.

In addition to backwards compatibility, Angular now has a better, well-defined, consistent release schedule. If Version 14 is released in late 2022, the team plans to release it twice a year. This means we’ll see various improvements within this well-loved framework by 2023.

6.  Yarn package manager

Package managers are very well-known tools, particularly for front-end JavaScript communities.

They help developers install, update, configure, and uninstall code modules in their applications. They accomplish this through the code module registry and managing the dependencies with which most code modules come.

The most well-known JavaScript package managers are Bower and NPM. as well as Bower. Yet, a new package manager has been created by Meta together in collaboration with Exponent, Google and Tilde. We expect its popularity to increase.

7.  Generators of static websites

Static website generators make websites from simple text. They are typically stored in files, and they are not stored in a database. In some situations, static websites created by generators like Jekyll offer certain advantages.

This includes improved speed and security, easy deployment, and control of traffic spikes.

But, they do not have real-time content or user-generated information (such as user comments) that have become a “must” on the internet nowadays. Since Content Delivery Networks and APIs are becoming more and more commonplace on the internet and making it simpler for templates and content to be used, many developers think that static site generators could be an interesting subject to keep an eye on in the next year.

8.  Web design evolution

If you’re interested in the design world and style, here are some of the trends to keep an eye on this year:

  1. Motion-based interfaces are likely to be a standard on the internet. Maybe when combined with libraries like tracking.js, interfaces that respond to hand movements could become more accessible than we thought.
  2. CSS Container queries will become extremely well-known in the world of RWD, or responsive Web Design (RWD).
  3. Bold and more extensive fonts are expected to become more commonplace.
  4. People usually want interesting and engaging ways to gather their information in a short amount of time. This could lead to an increase in the use of video and other storytelling visuals.

Final thoughts

If there is no stopping for too long on the web, the web’s world of development is no exception.

Information is constantly evolving, and the techniques we employ to process the data will also continue to evolve.
